I’ve made some mistakes in my life

I’ve made some mistakes in my life.

The kind where I’ve looked at myself in the mirror, smacked myself on the head and shouted,

Seriously Cate?!!  You did THAT?!  You IDIOT!!!

Yes, we all have them and if you don’t then I don’t believe you’re being honest.

Or real.

Some mistakes are uglier than others.

They threaten the loss of things.

Like security.

Like integrity.

And relationships.

They can fracture and wreak havoc with the things you hold dear.

Mistakes have a nasty habit of writing in

Big.

Black.

Pen.

All over your future.

Words.

Disqualified.

Rejected.

Shamed.

Alienated.

Wreckless.

Ruined.

Faithless.

Idiot.

But the lie, if you choose to accept it, is that those words are there to stay.

That there is no going back.

That there is no redemption.

That you are somehow ‘marked’ with that brush forever.

And there’s nothing you can do about it.

But that is simply not true.

TRUTH

is that God’s most stunning work,

is reserved for the ones that recognise,

they made a mistake,

but choose to look to Him for a second chance.

TRUTH

is knowing that you stuffed up,

but that your mistakes

do not define who you are.

TRUTH

is knowing that mistakes,

no matter how dumb or how idiotic,

cannot nail you to a past that you are no longer living in.

TRUTH

is knowing who you REALLY are.

Accepted.

Wanted.

Favoured.

Successful.

Redeemed.

A son and daughter of the Most High God.

Yes, there are consequences for mistakes.

But if you know God,

You’ll know He is the great RESTORER.

He is the one true REDEEMER.

He is the determiner of the course of your future.

Not your puny mistakes.

Yes, even His own kids make mistakes.

He expects it and has a contingency plan for you.

So take advantage of it.

Draw close to Him.

And let go of the tired rhetoric of the language of mistakes that plague your mind.

For His mercies are NEW every morning.

So hold your head up high!

Look to the horizon and begin again.

The future is yours and it is bright.
